Most memorable fitness moment: When I realized I could do a headstand all on my own! After years of trying but feeling really scared, I finally mastered it this Fall in my 500-hour Advanced Yoga Teacher Training with Sri Dharma Mittra. It was amazing – the most empowering moment!
What inspired you to want to get into a fitness career? I found yoga as a solace when I got back from Peace Corps and I wasn’t sure what to do with my life. I found myself on my mat everyday and before I knew it, I was in a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training with my teacher’s teacher in New York City at the Dharma Yoga Center. I love yoga and it helped me adjust to being back in the U.S., so I want to help others find that peace within.
Favorite post-workout stretch:Well, I teach yoga, so Savasana? Ha!
Best advice for anyone beginning their personal fitness journey today: I’d say “Just keep showing up.” I know it can be intimidating to show up to your first yoga class. For example, I was hesitant to try a lot of the more advanced poses when I first started going to class. But by continuing to show up, I slowly got more and more comfortable, and then next thing I knew, I was in headstand!
What do you love about working for TFLiving? I love working with my students and helping them get their self-care in, in an accessible way. I had two new parents come to class one night with their baby monitor, but because class was in their building, they could come and not worry too much!
Fun fact about you not related to fitness: I speak 3 and a half languages: English, Spanish, Malagasy (from Madagascar) and some French!
